Each kind of visa has a list of certain qualifiers and presenting these qualifiers to the consulate officer that will be conducting your visa interview will help get you the positive results you need for a US Visa.
There are actually 20 kinds of US visas that visitors can obtain from the US consulates in their home countries and knowing which one you will need for the specific purpose you will be going to the United States for is necessary. An example of this is, if you are planning on studying in the US, you will need to apply for a student's visa and present documents that will attest to this. You may also need to present proof of an ample source of finances for such a venture since education in the United States is pretty expensive.
The most common visa that visitors to the US try to obtain is the tourist visa. This kind of a visa allows a person to enter the country on the merit of their going there to visit and enjoy what the country has to offer in terms of tourism. A tourist visa is also subject to certain important documents and the awarding of such a visa to an applicant is also dependent on the perception a consulate interviewer gets from the applicant.
Another kind of US visa that some people may apply for is the Immigrant Visa. This is one of the toughest visas to obtain and these kinds of visas come in various forms as well. There are working visas, family sponsored visas and marriage visas, to name a few. These visas all require certain supporting papers and proof of eligibility before an applicant can be given any of these visa types. Working visas are usually subject to sponsorship papers by the company that is hiring the person who is being given the visa. Marriage visas are often given out to foreigners who legally marry American citizens. Family sponsored visas are given out to direct family members of citizens who wish to have the rest of their family transfer to the US.
Each type of visa may allow a person to travel to the US, but entry is often left to the discretion of the immigration officers upon entry. If a person is viewed as a threat to the security of the country, entry may be denied despite the person having a valid US visa.
