Usually, offshore oil rig jobs are extremely physical in nature. But nowadays, rig companies are trying their level best to make sure that their employees spend some pleasant and meaning time while they are aboard. They are providing various comforts to their employees on board.
One such comfort is in the form of accommodation wings that are furnished with facilities like the ones available in a 4 or 5 star hotel rooms. This is to make sure that they do not feel home sick while they at sea for atleast a few weeks. The company also provides various facilities like food and laundry, without charging anything. They also cover costs involved in travel, boarding and transfer of their employees.
The modern oil rig industry provides a wide avenue of offshore job opportunities for the enthusiastic and adventurous youth of today. The jobs that can be availed included:
Derrickman, Toolpusher, Motorman, Crane Operator, Cleaner/Painter, Mechanic/Electrician, Rig Mechanic, Rig Welder, Ballast Controlman or Watchstander, Chief Engineer, Safety Man, Driller, Shakerhand or Mudman, Floormen or Roughnecks, Assistant Driller, Roustabouts, Storekeeper, Sub Sea Engineer, Rig Electrician, Barge Engineer, Captain and Rig Medic.
All these jobs are extremely technical in nature. So, it is necessary for a person to have some formal technical knowledge and training in this field. This is also important for complete safety on board.
But before taking up an offshore oil rig job, make sure that you love sea and do not get sea sick easily. This is because once on board, you will be required to stay there for atleast 14 days, which means that you will get approximately 21 days off to spend with your family. This means that you will get atleast three-fifth of the year as holiday. But what needs to be kept in mind is the two-fifth when you will be at sea 24-hours every day!
There are basically two types of jobs that can be availed in the oil rig industry, namely drilling employment and traveling. The first one, drilling, involves staying on board and extracting oil from the sea bed.
The other job involves traveling to various countries like Nigeria, Kuwait, Venezuela, Russia, China, the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, the United States, United Arab Emirates, Mexico, Norway and Canada in search of new oil fields. The salaries that are offered vary according to the kind of work that a person is doing on board and the designation he/she holds.
