The estimates of the Bureau of Labor Statistics announce great news for medical professionals as it is predicted that just eight years down the line, by the year 2014 would see the availability of as many as 3.6 million new jobs for them.

A majority of these jobs (almost 60%) would be for those with nursing degrees for certified nursing assistants, licensed practical nurses, nurse practitioners, physician's assistants and also, in medical technical fields like phlebotomy etc. The rise in the job opportunities is estimated to be the highest for registered nurses as the Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts the same to increase by 27% by 2014.

Denying the age-old belief that the only jobs available for nurses were in hospitals and medical facilities, the Bureau of Labor Statistics identifies the nursing degree as one of the most versatile and useful degree. A nursing degree is being sought as a potential second career by older workers who realize the nursing shortage leading to rising salary and also, sees the same as an opportunity to participate in noble and humanitarian work.

The nursing job appeals to different strata of people as it provides the workers with a lot of freedom as evident from the fact that less than 60% of registered nurses work in a hospital and about 20% of those entering the nursing workforce are older workers starting on a new career.

The following information would serve as a news bulletin for those have decided to leave a mark in the nursing career and are either freshmen, or returning to work from a layoff, or even switching careers.

1.Pediatric Home Health Care: Most of the states in the Union have started on their Early Intervention program to meet the special needs of children under the age of three. Most of the times, the working area is the back of the ambulance but the job pays a salary commensurate with the nurse’s experience and has been rightly labeled as one of the most fascinating nursing jobs available.
